The Battery’s returning cast for the new season continues to grow, with forward Nicque Daley committing to the Black and Yellow for 2020.
In 2019, Daley featured in 17 matches, mostly coming off the bench, but finding some success in the middle of the season whilst fellow striker Zeiko Lewis was away on Gold Cup duty. This run was highlighted by an excellent showing against Nashville in the US Open Cup, scoring the opening goal with an absolutely superb run and curling effort as his side would eventually advance on penalties.
Daley would also feature for his country of Jamaica at the Concacaf Olympic Qualifiers, and was regularly a shot in the arm for an ailing Battery defense down the stretch, helping the team earn a 12th consecutive playoff berth.
From a personal standpoint, it’s obvious that Daley will be looking for more minutes in his sophomore campaign. On the team’s side of things, they’ll be looking for the striker to be more clinical in key moments as his role will undoubtedly be larger than the season before, knowing that coach Mike Anhaeuser likes to manage the minutes of the players at his disposal in their first year.
The Charleston Battery’s 2020 season begins March 8 away from home against Atlanta United II. Their home opener is then on March 28th against Philadelphia Union II.
