Battery Announce Preseason Schedule

The Charleston Battery have announced a slate of seven preseason matches ahead of the 2020 season.

The slate is headlined by MLS sides Inter Miami CF and Minnesota United, whilst Coastal Carolina and the College of Charleston take their usual spots among the lineup. USL League One affiliate Tormenta FC and League One Playoff finalist Greenville Triumph round out the set before the season begins for real on March 8th.

Minnesota United are up first on February 5th. Minnesota were regular participants in the Carolina Challenge Cup since their arrival in MLS, and feature former Battery midfielder and MLS Cup winner Osvaldo Alonso.

Then, two days later, the Battery will give Inter Miami CF its first taste of life on the pitch as they take on the new expansion side in their first live match. It will be an important date for Miami, and they’ll no doubt be looking to prove something before they begin their first campaign in MLS.

The Battery will then welcome Coastal Carolina to Patriot’s Point on February 12th, a fixture that’s produced interesting clashes in year’s past, as Coastal are among the colleges that feature in the lead up to new seasons.

The Battery then face the Greenville Triumph in a home-and-home series between February 15th and 19th. John Harkes’ side were beaten by the Battery in last year’s edition of the US Open Cup on their way to the USL League One Playoff Final, where they were beaten by North Texas FC. They’ll no doubt be looking to avenge the Cup loss, even if it is in preseason.

To conclude preseason, the Battery will face another team they eliminated from US Open Cup contention, their League One affiliate, Tormenta FC on February 28th.

Unfortunately for fans, the home games in preseason will be behind closed doors as the team prepares for their home opener on March 28th. It will be frustrating in that aspect, but the team will hope that everything goes through without a hitch on opening day, and the wait will hopefully do even more to get fans excited for what’s in store.

The Battery will take on Minnesota United on February 5th. Kick off times for this, and all the preseason games, are to be announced.
