Deshawon Nembhard becomes Battery’s second new signing of 2020

Defender Deshawon Nembhard will join the Charleston Battery ahead of the 2020 campaign, following a successful trial.
The Florida International University graduate last played professionally in 2018, with FC Miami City in USL League Two, having previously played for Southern Methodist University in Texas, and spending time in his youth with the US Soccer Development Academy and the Solar Chelsea U18s.
The signing is the latest to come out of the Battery’s famed scouting system, which has been a successful well of talent for the Black and Yellow for years. It remains to be seen how Nembhard will fit into the Battery’s system in the coming season, but depth is something the team lacked in 2019, so it comes as a welcome addition.
The Battery are currently in preseason, and will next face the Greenville Triumph on February 15th. They begin their league season with a trip to Atlanta United II on March 8th, before opening their new home at Patriots Point on March 28.
