Battery sign Mauro Cichero

Attacking midfielder Mauro Cichero is the latest to join the Charleston Battery’s 2020 roster.

Cichero is also the latest to make the jump up from USL League One after spending 2019 with League Champions North Texas SC, the lower league affiliate of MLS side FC Dallas.

Before his stint in Dallas, Cichero turned heads while playing in college at SMU, most notably during his sophomore season, having tallied 10 goals and 9 assists, which earned him American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year.

Prior to an injury that kept him out for part of his senior season, Cichero scored 12 goals and set up eight in his final two seasons in college, and was eventually selected 29th overall in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft.

He struggled with injury in 2019 and the Battery will be hoping that he will find the form he showed in College now that he’s healthy, as the Black and Yellow have been in need of a goalscoring midfielder throughout the past few seasons.

The Battery close out preseason against Tormenta FC on Friday, February 28th, before starting their league campaign against Atlanta United II on March 8th. They will then open their new home at Patriot’s Point on March 28th against Philadelphia Union II.
