Some Questions With… Leland Archer

On Monday afternoon, April 4th, Charleston Battery center back Leland Archer took some time to answer some questions for us. We’d like to thank Leland for his time, and you can read on to hear about his thoughts on the season so far, which of the Battery’s new signings has impressed him so far this year, and more.
BYP: The last few results have been tough, but do you see signs of what you’ve been trying to build on a daily basis?
LA: The results haven’t gone our way, but I think that what we’ve been doing has been good. I think that we just need to tighten up on a few areas and I think we’ll get the results.
BYP: You’ve had time with the [Trinidad and Tobago] National Team as of late, how has that helped you grow as a player?
LA: Yeah, obviously there’s a lot of experienced players that play for the national team, so in camp they’re always giving me advice during training sessions, during any type of Football related thing we do, so it’s been good. It’s a little different, It’s basically the same role I play here, at center back, but sometimes we play with three at the back [in Trinidad], sometimes we play four, Here I’m one of the more senior guys, there I’m one of the younger guys, so it’s good and there’s good competition for places.
BYP: Which of the new signings has impressed you so far?
LA: Probably Augi (Williams). He’s been scoring goals recently, two goals in four games so I think he’ll be big for us this year. He’s a good guy, really down to earth as well.
BYP: Are you impressed with the fan turnout so far this year?
LA: Yeah the last two games have been good with the fans, they bring a lot of energy. I think we can pack the stadium even more! But yeah the past two have been good and we’ve definitely felt it from them.
Who’s your biggest inspiration as a center back?
Right now I’d have to say Virgil Van Dijk, probably because I’m a Liverpool supporter. But I think he makes the game look very, very easy.
Once again we thank Leland for his time and remind you that you can see him in action on Wednesday at Patriot’s Point as the Battery face Tormenta FC in the US Open Cup.
