Phil Breno is Back for the Battery’s 2020 campaign

Goalkeeper Phil Breno will be back for his second season in Black and Yellow in 2020.

After an interesting first campaign in which he made the most of appearances in the US Open Cup, most notably making himself the hero in a penalty shootout win over Nashville SC, making three saves as the Battery advanced to the fifth round.

Breno re-signs following the departure of Joe Kuzminsky to Europe, and has a solid chance of becoming the club’s starting ‘keeper, having made two league appearances in addition to his cup heroics.

As with any player, no goalkeeper likes to sit on the bench, so following Kuzminsky’s exit, with the position up for grabs, Breno will be looking to make the position his own, but has some big boots to fill, and will have to show the boss Mike Anhaeuser that the experience gained from his first season has led to marked improvement.
